voltage to ballast

Post by soulscapex » Fri Oct 01, 2010 2:26 pm

well i was hoping to get ansers on my other questions so i downloaded the repair manual ..

and i still cant figure this out.

so my question is ther is a blue and brown wire coming from teh power suppy to the ballast....
on a samsung hlp5063wx , now i took a meter and i only show 180 volts on the brown when the tv fires the bulb....... and then when it shuts off it drops to 0.. i show nothing on the blue wire.

can someone please tell me how i can tell if this is a bad power supply or a bad ballast. what is the correct voltage on that wire .for the ballast to fire the bulb.

like i said in my other post the tv will come on and work with pic and sound for 5 mins then shut off the just the bulb....... fans still run. then it waits 5 mins with 3 flahsing lights and shuts the whole tv off.

i dont have the money to just buy a new ballast and a new power board do ......if anyone could tell me a way to go here......

id appreciate it so much.

The Ballast needs to receive 350V from the power supply. And the voltage from ballast to lamp varies depending how consumed is the lamp form 20V-125V. Lamp ignition pulse voltage is about 5Kv to 15Kv.

If you have a reading of 180V from power supply to ballast than the power supply is not sending the voltage that ballast needs and you will need to replace it.
Change is the only constant, we must become the change we want to see.

I may be wrong, but I think the blue wire is ground. The voltage on my 5065W should be 380 VDC.

Reminds me of the opening scene to a Mel Gibson/Danny Glover movie. :)
