The Lion King is so not evil. Simba?? Evil?? What the bleep is wrong with you man?

By the way...I was changing the topic from love in the air to the Lion King. Just smile and take it and be glad I didn't profess undying love. Wink

So I had this Christian woman at my job tell me that she would not let her kids see the Harry Potter movies because it has black magic and sorcery in it....
So I put her on the spot, and said what type of movies do you let your children watch, and she says Disney............she said last week they watched the lion king....So I said you let your children watch a movie that has a baboon which is a witch doctor, and practices magic....Hmmm that seems like a double negative to me..Her kids can watch disney movies..Yea hmmm lets see the black cauldron, hocus pocus,Sorcerer and the stone, and even movies like sleeping beauty..Yea those dont have some from of socerery in them..hmmmmmmm. So that's why I said the Lion King was evil..Because I dealt with a typical brain washed Christian. Who only sees things one way. Mad

Not all Christians see things "one way". That is a stereotype. We aren't all "brain washed".

I too know that some people have refused to let their children see Harry Potter, but will let them watch movies full of violence.

I am not taking either side. I have seen both Harry Potter movies and totally loved them. In my opinion, a movie is a movie, entertainment, and I personally wont have a problem letting my kids see something like Harry Potter despite my religious beliefs. But others feel differently. More power to them.

BUT, speaking of Disney movies, Alice in Wonderland was a movie about one big acid trip, no?

OH, I was totally NOT being arguementative at all. Just voicing one of my (many) opinions. Don't mind me.

And by the way, isn't that when Cinemax shows all the porn??

The argument that I have heard about Harry Potter, (among the others) is that it teaches kids that there is such thing as magic...But I have to ask, what's wrong with that? Isn't that what childhood is all about? wonder, magic, imagination? I think the tragity of adulthood is that we lose those things. we forget how to see all the world's possibility and be thrilled at the magic of a budding flower.

Can't watch Cinamax, I don't get it.

wonder, magic, imagination... that's what my adulthood is about. The only problem is, certain people around me don't believe in it. The truth is you need to surround yourself with others with the same wonder and curiosity. Let the other side sit around and protest while we make potions. Which, by the way, a friend of mine did and I think it works. See? Magic. Very Happy

it's all about faith.

My sister is a biologist, which would generally mean that she is too scientific to believe in magic. But it's the opposite. she believes in it completely.

I believe that tey coexist. science can only explain so much, where science starts getting wierd, like quantum physics, magic begins. I am sorry for the people who don't see the magic in everything.

To me it is more unbelievable to think that we are able to see and understand everything around us, and that it is all measured with our five "standard" senses, than it is to believe that there is a whole universe within and outside that realm that blurs the lines of science and magic. Magic to me is simply a term used to define experiences we don't understand. It isn't good or evil, it just IS. Once we understand them the mystery is gone. That is why magicians closely guard their secrets. Once knowledge is gained, the magic vanishes. So, maybe it is not such a bad thing to leave some mysteries unsolved and enjoy the resulting "magic" that breaks up our daily routine and adds spice to our lives.

I must have some kind of magic because I was able to get a very intresting convesation going...
Thank you Jen..You are a sweetheart as always.
Well Gina..You are right about the fact that not all christians think that way, but I base my exprience with the supossed back bone of the religion itself...fliping through stations and coming across those ever amusing characters that speak on the California Christian Network.or even satisfying a friend because they think I need saving and going with them to church once, and having a good ol conversation with their pastor....It never fails when I use the Harry Poter card... that is the discussion..That is what's sold in their bookstores....Ohh you will find the video that says "Harry Potter is evil" Religion is of course a touchy subject and I try not to offend anyone..If I do I am sorry, but if you believe in God, or a higher source..either magical or non...Isn't all that matters is whats in your heart, and not what they tell you to believe is right in church, or televison..

nicely put, all of you.

Jokesonme, I read once that the mysteries are there because most people can't handle the truth. That most mysteries are really very simple truths. In my reality, the world just is. Much of it I don't understand. Call it what you want. magic, mysteries, it's all the same. I will seek that knowlage, while understanding that there are some things my human mind is not prepared to comprehend.

I once heard a philosophy attributed to the Hawaiians. "Everything is True" and I realized that no matter what you believe, it is your perception. and it is your truth. You are not thinking wrong, you are thinking different. I choose to see the magic in all things, while understanding that what I term as "Magic" is relly far more complex, and far more simple than that.

I only get upset with the people who insist that I am wrong for my beliefs. Who expect me to believe as they do. The hard core ones who think that religion has a political agenda. But then I remind myself that they do not percieve the world the way I do. They don't believe that everything is true.

You are right Alan, that IS what matters, what's in the heart.

That's all I was defending, and no, you did not offend me. You just sprouted a well thought out debate. Very Happy

Debates are neat.......Specially when they end very nicely and both parties can take home some knowledge that they did not fully understand before.
