I just replaced my lamp on my samsung tv and now the colors are wavy and fading in places does this mean I have a bad lamp and need to return for new or does this mean after replacing the lamp now my color wheel is going out?

The lamp has nothing to do with the colors, I just provides the white light and the color wheel divides this into the primary colors, which are used by the light engine to produce the picture that the digital and analog board indicate.

So since you have a picture we can say your lamp is working fine, your problem could be the color wheel or maybe some board. Fortunately you can check the color wheel physically before continue with a more complex troubleshooting. Use this replacement guide to take the color wheel out: http://guides.fixyourdlp.com/samsung/bp96-01579a.php.

Once you have the color wheel apart check if it's damaged, if so then replace it, else try with other inputs, maybe the problem just appear in some of them. Check also if the problem appears over the menu.

Get back to me once you have done this test.
